Non-invasive suppression of essential tremor via phase-locked disruption of its temporal coherence

چکیده

Abstract Aberrant neural oscillations hallmark numerous brain disorders. Here, we first report a method to track the phase of in real-time via endpoint-corrected Hilbert transform (ecHT) that mitigates characteristic Gibbs distortion. We then used ecHT show aberrant oscillation hallmarks essential tremor (ET) syndrome, most common adult movement disorder, can be transiently suppressed transcranial electrical stimulation cerebellum phase-locked tremor. The suppression is sustained shortly after end and phenomenologically predicted. Finally, use feature-based statistical-learning neurophysiological-modelling ET mechanistically attributed disruption temporal coherence olivocerebellar loop, thus establishing its causal role. driven may future represent powerful neuromodulatory strategy treat

Non-invasive Brain Stimulation for Essential Tremor

BACKGROUND There is increasing interest in the use of non-invasive brain stimulation to characterize and potentially treat essential tremor (ET). Studies have used a variety of stimulation coils, paradigms, and target locations to make these observations. We reviewed the literature to compare prior studies and to evaluate the rationale and the methods used in these studies. METHODS We perform...

Thalamomuscular coherence in essential tremor: hen or egg in the emergence of tremor?

Thalamomuscular coherence in essential tremor (ET) has consistently been detected in numerous neurophysiological studies. Thereby, spatial properties of coherence indicate a differentiated, somatotopic organization; so far, however, little attention has been paid to temporal aspects of this interdependency. Further insight into the relationship between tremor onset and the onset of coherence co...

Coherence between low-frequency activation of the motor cortex and tremor in patients with essential tremor.

BACKGROUND In healthy people, rhythmic activation of the motor cortex in the 15-30 Hz frequency range accompanies and contributes to voluntarily-generated postural contractions of contralateral muscle. In patients with Parkinson's disease, an abnormal low-frequency activation of the motor areas of the cortex occurs and has been directly linked to the characteristic 3-6 Hz rest tremor of this di...

Sensory electrical stimulation for suppression of postural tremor in patients with essential tremor.

Essential tremor is an involuntary trembling of body limbs in people without tremor-related disease. In previous study, suppression of tremor by sensory electrical stimulation was confirmed on the index finger. This study investigates the effect of sensory stimulation on multiple segments and joints of the upper limb. It denotes the observation regarding the effect's continuity after halting th...

Suppression of Hand Postural Tremor Via Active Force Control Method

This paper presents the behavior and the effective way to suppress the human hand postural tremor using the active force control method. The main advantages of proposed method include; its simple control technique, practically applicable in real-time due to the much lesser computational burden and the extra robustness feature the method generates. The actual tremor data from a Parkinson disease...
